First, before I get into the solution, there is a process. The electricity needed for the business has to be assessed. To see what size system will be needed to keep up with the needs of that specific business.
Manitoba Hydro requires the system you will get to be sized on an average consumption for the 12 months of the year. They will not allow an oversized system. If the assessment can't be done by yourself, I'd be happy to help. But we have a form that will help. You fill each items required and we do the rest.

Yes the initial amount of money is high compared to what your bill is now. So lets see an example.
John has a little shop at home and runs his business from home. He needs a system that is for example 20KW.

Lets say the system he needs to power his shop is $60,000 dollars. That will be $12,000 a year or $1000 a month for 12 months. At the end of the year, come tax time, he will get it all back. It can then sit in his account and pay for the next year. Or used to expand or modify his shop. That gave him free hydro for a year. After five years, He has completed his lease and can buy the system for $10.
If that isn't an incentive, I am not sure what else to call it. A bit more out of pocket to start and then freedom.
